Sukiyaki Japan offers simple Japanese food made with fresh and healthy premium ingredients. Flagship locations in LA’s Arts District, Echo Park and Manhattan Village are inspired by vibrant street culture in contemporary Tokyo and Southern California. Indoor and lushly planted outdoor spaces are layered with references to traditional Japanese art, architecture and in new and unexpected ways, blending spray painted graffiti street art murals with ceilings of Japanese Shou-Sugi-Ban charred wood and geometric cork tiled floors. Noguchi Akari lanterns, contemporary ceramic tiles using ancient techniques, and billowing outdoor mesh curtains made from recycled materials underscore the sense of place at each location. Overall, the juxtaposition of new with old and Tokyo with LA produces a sophisticated sense of design that is both fresh and exciting, blending the best of Japan with Southern California cool to establish a distinctive and inviting visual personality. The design elements are created as a flexible system that can be adapted to different sites, from stand-alone restaurants to outdoor kiosks to locations at airports and stations throughout Los Angeles and San Diego.
