ALTA LIC, LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK
We designed ALTA LIC for its residents, with 45,000 square feet of visually stimulating amenities spanning multiple floors that are dedicated to community, entertainment and wellness. They meld Long Island City’s historic industrial qualities with a warm, contemporary sensibility and an inviting palette of natural materials to establish a true sense of place. The building’s lobby features a dramatic rear-illuminated wall of copper mesh glass in a blackened steel frame complemented by ivory oak slatted walls, artisan walls and contemporary Swedish furniture. On the fourth floor 10,000 square feet dedicated to wellness feature a state-of-the art fitness center, yoga and movement studio, indoor lap pool and an 18-hole golf simulator. The dramatic 16-foot-tall fitness center, with its taxi cab yellow oak ceilings and dark graphite palette, emphasizes spectacular views. The sky-lit pool is tiled in elegant white and copper mosaic, while locker rooms are appointed in distressed metal, referencing the site’s industrial history. A great lawn with outdoor movie screen and lounge seating is the centerpiece of the 38th floor landscaped outdoor deck, which also offers barbecue stations and dining areas. High atop the building on the 43rd floor, the penthouse party room is organized around a four-sided glass fireplace and open kitchen. Appointed in the building’s signature palette, the lounge and its landscaped roof terrace are a dramatic venue with unobstructed panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline. Our design elevates shared common amenity areas to compelling public spaces where residents can come together, form friendships, and create a true community. Photos © Qualls Benson.
